Nostalgija u eurima: Zbogom Kuno, Halo Euro! I Nostalgia in Euros: Goodbye Kuno, Hello Euro!

S ljubavlju,

Mirela

Hello dear readers,

I’d like to share my thoughts with you on the experience of dual price display during the transition to the euro in our beautiful Croatia. Since September 5, 2022, the so-called “dual price display” has been in effect, and throughout 2023, we had the opportunity to compare the actual cost of products or services, all in kuna. However, as of January 1, 2024, things took a turn.

The Law on the Introduction of the Euro in the Republic of Croatia set guidelines for this transitional period, meant to be a time of adjustment to the new currency. As a consumer, I often found myself taken aback by the increase in prices for various things during 2023. The burning question on everyone’s mind is: is it because of the euro, or has inflation taken its toll? With new attempts at tax reform, it’s not entirely clear whether wage increases will keep up with the rising prices. On the other hand, the increase in tax-free allowances for workers, which I’ve previously discussed in a blog, is certainly a commendable move.

From an accounting perspective, I must admit that it’s a relief to conduct business transactions in euros. The euro, it seems, navigates well within business circles.

However, the question remains – should prices continue to be displayed in dual currency or not? Many are pondering this these days. As for me, reflecting on this situation has contributed to my ongoing effort to enrich my knowledge of entrepreneurship and accounting.

P. S. I’m striving to gather new insights in all areas related to entrepreneurship and accounting. A picture is worth a thousand words!

With love,

Mirela
